The Proposal

Tyler wrote me out of the blue one day; he'd gotten my name from another photographer, and as thrilled as I was to hear from him, shock quickly set in. He asked me if I'd capture a most special moment. As soon as I heard his voice, his excitement, his nervousness...I accepted in a heartbeat. Now I don't know that I was more nervous than he was, BUT, I'd never done a proposal before. And I couldn't wait!

He told me he planned to pop the question to Alissa, his long-distance love living in sunny Gainesville. He booked a trip from his home in Michigan with big plans for how they'd spend their time, and hopefully their future!

Tyler picked up Alissa from work and together they trekked to the beautiful campus of the University of Florida where she's been doing her internship for the last number of months. He invited her out on a walk, showing no hard feelings for the place that took her away from him. Any day of the week, a stroll in the sunshine in Florida in February may beat out the wintery grays anywhere else. But this day would become even brighter for Tyler and Alissa. Little did she know that Tyler and I had mapped out a particularly special spot on their route, or that I'd be waiting for them to stroll past.

Something you should know about these two: Tyler and Alissa have revived true romance. They've been sending this red journal back and forth to each other, each with handwritten notes sharing their thoughts about life, their day to day, and the depth of their love for each other. And this is, like, HANDwritten, not texted or typed or emoticoned. So few take the time to write anything by hand anymore, so this diary of theirs passing back and forth across miles and days is a true testament of love and sweetness. Naturally, he didn't let her read the most recent entry until after she said yes!

I loved this shoot. There are no words to describe the feeling of being present for, and capturing image after image of, the start of a new family, a new life together. It was an incredible honor to be with these two as they marked the very moment that would be where their "story" grew roots, and where two long distance lovebirds became even closer.
